Jen and Aviva met in July 2012 at Jen's parents' home in Kamloops, reconnecting in November 2020 via Tinder. Jen proposed to Aviva on Hollyburn Mountain after secretly keeping a ring box for 16 months. They married at the Vancouver Club for its historic charm and indoor setting. Aviva chose her wedding gown from Everly, loving Alena Leena's ethical and customizable designs. Their favorite wedding moments were the vows, speeches, and dancing to Queer as Funk.

  • We met for the first time in July 2012 at Jen's parents home in Kamloops. Aviva was there visiting Jen's sister and Jen was in Kamloops spending time with her family the same weekend. Even though it was love at first sight...Jen was in Kamloops with someone else. We went our separate ways for 8 years with Jen's mom planting the "Aviva seed" in her ear each year. In November 2020 Jen spotted what she thought was a catfish on tinder and began to investigate. It turns out, there was no catfish and we've been together since.

  • About 16 months prior to Jen proposing to Aviva. Jen had ordered a mystery item (a ring box) which was to be delivered to our apartment by UPS. Jen missed the delivery and Aviva recalled Jen being distressed over it and knew that this item was important. Jen kept the item a secret for 16 months despite Aviva's monthly nag about what this special item was. After months of deliberation, ring shopping, and a sneaky ring purchase. Jen proposed to Aviva at the top of our snowshoeing adventure on Hollyburn mountain. Jen placed the ring in the puzzle box Jen had ordered. Aviva said yes, was very surprised and loved the ring just slightly more than she loved finally knowing what the secret item was.

  • Overall, the vibe of the wedding was a blend of historic charm, personal touches, and inclusivity.

  • Vancouver Club - we wanted an indoor venue in an older building in Downtown Vancouver. The permanent wasn't big enough for our guest list and we didn't love the idea of having to change the room over for ceremony to reception.

  • Aviva - I really struggled to find my dress, everything I tried on I felt good in, I didn't think I would find "the one". I went to 9 different bridal stores and became overwhelmed by choice. When I walked into Everly, I knew I would be buying a dress from them. Their staff were incredible, patient, and so knowledgeable. I was struck my Alena Leena's design, attention to detail, customization options and most importantly, ethical production. In terms of customization, Alena Leena offered many customization options for a low price allowing me to add personal touches to my gown that reflected my personal style. In addition, Alena Leena emphasizes ethical production practices, ensuring that the dresses are made in ways that respect both the environment and the workers. This aligned with my values. I felt so good wearing her gown!

  • Vows, hearing speeches, and of course dancing all night to queer as funk
